The good news: I did get a brace for my right foot. It is hinged and I can drive with a shoe on. I haven’t been able to drive with a shoe in five months!
The bad news: The doctor had told me the brace would fit into my shoes. Um…wrong. I got it into a snow boot, but even that couldn’t be zipped. I had to go and buy TWO pairs of shoes-left foot…regular size 8.5. Right foot…are you ready for this? Size 10! Wide!
And it’s still difficult to get on.
The I’m-not-sure-how-I-feel-about-this-news: So, I’m telling my doctor how nice it was on my ankle when Bruce’s mom was here and we used her handicapped parking pass. He was horrified he’d never given me one, and asked if I’d wanted one. I said, “Sure, I guess.” I never even looked at the paper-he just said I’d have to fill it out at DMV. At the DMV, I’m looking down at this form. The doctor marked “permanent” on it!
What’s that supposed to mean? I’m never getting better????? So I’ve got two placards…Between this, and having a birthday, and the shoe thing, I’m feeling like an old, handicapped woman who wears clown shoes, but gets really good parking spots. When I figure out this blog better, I’ll put this under “rant”.
Although doing Costco and some other stores with a handicapped person is really great!
Can I borrow your brace and your handicapped pass? Yeah? OK thanks!
I’m NOT handicapped Beth!
